Yorkton, as many other centres over the last few years, has jumped on the 'heritage' bandwagon and begun installing period lighting in its downtown, along its main street and in new residential developments in the north east.  Choice of lighting fixtures is by public and business committee, with daytime aesthetics appearing to be the major factor in what is used.

The City does lay out some basic lighting guidelines as part in '
Zoning Bylaw 14/2003 - Section 4.28 Site Lighting'.

Downtown  / East Broadway Lighting Project
Concern: Large amounts of sky glow, glare distracts from traffic signals and makes pedestrians harder to see.
Current Status:  On-going project. City and Business Improvement District committee determined to see project through regardless.
See '
West Broadway' for project info and photos.

Riverside / Riverside Terrace
Concern: Opportunity for a 'model' neighbourhood lost.
Current Status: FCOs originally in plan do not appear; lantern & acorn streetlamps installed instead.   Jan08 - lighting guidelines watered down.
Water Treatment Plant (Logan Green)
Concern: Lights from new development will spoil great sky views and walking areas along southern edge of City.
Current Status: FCity Planner contacted April 21, 2008 / awaiting reply.
West Broadway Lighting Project

Concern: All may be undone by announced casino move to West Broadway location; additionally, a 'light teepee' may be part of the plan.
Current Status:
