UofS Griffiths Stadium
Concern:  Griffiths Stadium will have sports lighting standards installed in time for the 2005 Vanier Cup. Sports lightings is often done with no respect for surrounding environment and produce large amounts of uplight. The U of S Astronomy photometry program is done less than ½ kilometer away, and would be affected during games.

25-Jan-05 Rick Huziak requests guidance on the RASClist for similar issues. Dave Lane, St. Mary’s Univ has just gone through the same problem. St. Mary’s installed shielded, two-level lighting. Dave provided basic plan, lay-out lighting information, name of architect and developer.
Jan. 2005 Gord Sarty finds organizing group on campus. Organizers agree to meet. They state design has not progressed very far.
Jan. 2005 Radio news reports Griffiths Stadium will be upgraded to have sports lighting installed. This is a potential environmental disaster. U of S Physics Dept (Stan Shadick & Yannis Pahatouroglou) alerted. Meeting decides to pursue.
