020607 Corman Park
I originally sent the following to " rm344@rmcormanpark.ca " yesterday:

I'd like to inquire about Corman Park's apparent new policy to include Light Pollution statements in acreage developments that are being conducted in the RM. The first such statement appeared in the Mission Ridge Country Estates development contracts, and the next is apparently in the Sarilia County Estates. Being the author of the light pollution statements in Mission Ridge, I am delighted to see that this environmentally conscious initiative has been recognized to be important in the preservation of natural landscapes in Corman Park.

I'd like more information about how Corman Park is developing this concept. Is there going to be a bylaw, or how is the statement relayed to new developers? Also - the statement as it stands is a 'start', in that it conveys a concept of having controlled lighting as not to create city-like outdoor light conditions and not to bother neighbours. However, the statement is quite weak, in that it "requests" cooperation, but does not demand it, and at this time, the statements are not enforced, as far as I know.

Is there someone that I can talk to to get more information on the light pollution statements in the developer contracts? Please call or email anytime.

Regards,

rick

... RESPONSE...............................

Richard,

In response to your email to Eric, Corman Park does not have specific light pollution policy. We have developers that propose better lighting on their own. Our administration also routinely requires developers, especially of commercial and industrial properties, to restrict direct artificial light effects to their own site for aesthetic and safety reasons. Council has not identified concerns about lighting, perhaps because we deal with it as a routine matter.

If you wish to discuss this further please contact me at 975-1653.
